Exclusive Interview with Rubén Gallardo

To learn more about this new chapter, we spoke with Rubén about his evolution, upcoming projects, and his vision of the industry.

It’s been 10 years since the beginning of your career. How would you describe your evolution as a composer over the past decade?

"A constant evolution, always staying true to my ideals while growing both personally and professionally. Over this decade, I have learned a great deal from other professionals and, at the same time, from myself. I’ve been able to unlock my full potential by taking on new projects that have continuously challenged me to refine my musical style. Thanks to this, I have been able to shape my career in a solid and meaningful way."

Looking back, what do you think has been the biggest challenge in your career?

"The biggest challenge has been facing the demands of each project and stepping out of my comfort zone. I’ve worked in genres like horror and animation, which were an adventure in every sense. I had to explore different instruments and create scores that made me appreciate my own work even more, allowing me to discover new facets of my creativity."

Your music has crossed borders. What differences do you find between working in Spain and in markets like the U.S. or the U.K.?

"Outside of Spain, the workflow is different. Many projects involve numerous people in every decision. When it comes to my work, there are multiple stages before I even start composing—editors, producers, and directors are all part of the decision-making process, which is something that doesn’t happen as often in Spain. However, I always insist on direct communication with the directors, as it allows me to work in a more concise and effective way."

The launch of your new website and the renovation of your studio mark a shift in your artistic identity. What message do you want to convey with this renewal?

"This year marks a decade of dedication and hard work in my career, and I wanted to do something new. The new image represents commitment and elegance—qualities that have always defined my music and my approach to work. It’s a celebration of everything I’ve built so far and a reflection of my evolution."

We know 2025 will be filled with international projects. Can you share any details about these productions?

"This year feels like a movie—literally! (laughs). I’m involved in several projects in New York, Los Angeles, and Sydney, each from a different genre and with very distinct concepts. While I can’t reveal too much just yet, I can assure you they’ll be exciting stories with truly special soundtracks."

In addition to cinema, you’re immersed in new stage projects. What can you tell us about them?

"Yes, this year I’m also working on theatrical and musical projects. There’s one in particular that I’ve been working on for months, and it’s been a true gift during this year of celebration."

You’ve worked in film, television, and theater. Is there any other medium where you’d like to experiment with your music?

"I never close doors. Music is a language without barriers for me. A few years ago, I didn’t consider composing for the stage, and now it’s one of my greatest satisfactions. Who knows what the future holds."

If you could give advice to new composers who want to follow in your footsteps, what would it be?

"To get a solid education, not only in music, composition, or instrumentation. They should study film, genres, read, watch, listen, and learn. Knowledge is key in this profession. But above all, they should believe in themselves and their talent. That’s the most important thing."

With this new image and ongoing projects, Rubén Gallardo is not only celebrating the first 10 years of his career, but also opening the door to a decade of even more ambitious achievements and transformations.
